Paddling War Eagle Creek
Tuesday Jul 12, 2022
Tuesday Jul 12, 2022
Welcome back to Wayward Stories! This week we explore a hidden gem of paddling in the Ozarks! War Eagle Creek is known mostly for passing through the famous water wheel at War Eagle Mill, but not a lot of folks know that it’s an absolutely prime creek for a backcountry excursion in the Arkansas Ozarks.
The smallmouth fishing is prime, the water cool and clear, and the best part? You won’t see many other people on your adventure.
Join us this week and hear about my trip down War Eagle!

The Buffalo River Experience
Tuesday Jun 28, 2022
Tuesday Jun 28, 2022
Welcome back to Wayward Stories! This week’s episode is, at its heart, my love letter to the Buffalo River. 2022 marks the 50 year anniversary of this incredible sacred place being protected and preserved by our National Park Service. Perhaps you were unaware, but this magnificent piece of American wilderness nearly became a lake before conservationists and activists alike helped to secure its protected status. Join me tonight as I share with you what, in my opinion, is the most intimate way to experience the Buffalo in all of her natural beauty!

Oklahoma’s First National Park
Tuesday Apr 26, 2022
Tuesday Apr 26, 2022
How many of you have heard of Platt National Park? How many of you even KNEW Oklahoma HAD a National Park? Show of hands…be honest!
As it turns out, Oklahoma had one of America’s earliest established National Parks and it maintained that status until 1976 when it was absorbed into two other properties to become the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. While still administered by the NPS, it no longer has the much-aspired to status of one of America’s “National Parks”. This, however does not diminish its beauty or general awesomeness! Listen in tonight to hear about my adventure to explore the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Platt Historic District and Turner Falls (Oklahomas tallest waterfall) to boot!

Hey guys, welcome back to Wayward Stories!
This week we talk about an ancient mountain range deep in SW Oklahoma filled with mysterious tales of Spanish miners, notorious outlaws…and, more to the point…hiking gold. The Kiamichi Mountain range is a true wilderness area, preserved as a game reserve for American Buffalo, Elk, deer and many more native species. It is truly rugged backcountry, filled with ancient granite peaks, slot canyons, boulder gardens and even a waterfall. Listen in tonight as I tell the tales of outlaw loot, Spanish gold and my most recent adventure that found me unexpectedly spending the night in my hammock deep in the mountains.

This show is my passion project, born of a traumatic set of circumstances that jarred me from a sedentary life and an apocalyptic worldview. With my jarring wake up call came a clean slate...both in my physical world, but also my mental and emotional world. Wayward Stories is my humble attempt to add value to this world through sharing my story...my journey...with the intent of prompting others to take their lives back into their own hands. My goals are simple:
1- Demonstrate to others who have experienced trauma that good CAN exist on the other side of bad...so don't give up.
2- Offer proof-of-concept that an exciting life full of adventure and self-expansion can be had by the everyday Joe like me...with an everyday job, and everyday budget and an everyday life.
